About MNG Steel

Mongolia’s mills grind with imported steel. We are changing that.

MNG Steel was founded in 2017 to produce steel grinding balls in Mongolia for the country’s copper, gold and iron-ore concentrators. The plant began with cast and forged balls for smaller mills and now supplies heat-treated forged media to large SAG and ball mill circuits.

  • Why we exist

Every tonne of ore ground in Mongolia consumes steel. The country’s concentrators use tens of thousands of tonnes of grinding balls a year, almost all imported by rail with long lead times and no local technical support. We make that media in Mongolia, tested to the same specifications, with the plant a day’s drive from the mill.

  • How we work

Each customer has a media specification and a mill. We match alloy, hardness profile and size to that mill, test every heat, and measure wear in the customer’s own circuit through marked-ball trials. Supply runs on a monthly schedule tied to the plant’s consumption.

  • What we stand for

Media that does not break in the mill, test records that can be traced to a heat number, deliveries that arrive on the agreed date, and a plant that trains Mongolian metallurgists and operators.

How the company is organised
